For my Senior Capstone Project I chose the special interest route, purely because I’ve always had a connection with my artistic side rather than my academics. When I began to notice how much school wasn’t my thing it became hard to want to learn. I struggled to maintain interest in class and would find myself dozing off or doodling. The only part of the day I would be interested in was art. I’ve always had the artistic touch. I started art classes when I was eight years old and was in awe when I realized it was a class I could take in middle school and high school. Although the excitement to put everything on paper in colors and shapes instead of words was a dream to me. I still had the same issue, I wasn’t doing well in my academic classes. At the time, I didn’t have a very good understanding of how I can use my skills I’ve gotten from art in my everyday life. As my mind has grown I’ve noticed art has taught me important lessons, like becoming intellectually connected with myself.

I´ve learned to keep going and stick with a project, even when it becomes challenging. The kind of control I’ve learned from art began to generate into other subjects I struggled with, like math and english. In art I’ve learned how to work around other people who also think creatively instead of academically. I can take constructive criticism in the sense that people are there to support and help me, rather than shut me down. The person I am today, is angry at the people who told me I was spending too much time on my creative side, and that it wouldn’t take me anywhere. Art made me, me. It taught me how to express my feelings, without actually having to say anything. Although I am not planning on bringing physical art into my future plans for a job. I am going to continue to practice art and take what I learn from it into my life.
